This initial appraisal allows you to identify individual motivations for drinking and/or using and how to create the most useful and effective suggestions for each of your addicted clients. Science has taught us that not all addictions stem from the same root; there are different KINDS of addictions, which means we need to approach them differently with our hypnotic processes in order to be most effective. This will be a brief overview of how you can reach out to a vulnerable population and bring to them the power and healing of hypnosis without making promises you cannot keep or violating principles of addiction science and ethics. Gaye Wilson, RN, MSN, MS, CHt, in private hypnotherapy practice in the Placerville area since 1996, conducts a variety of successful individual and group hypnosis programs on a regular basis. 10:00a.m. - 1:00p.m. Workshop $30 (one workshop ticket) Profound Healing: Opening the Pathway to Transformation Cheryl Canfield, Napa, CA Based on Cheryl's personal experience of recovering from advanced cancer and many case histories, she will explore the emotional and spiritual aspects of confronting a life-threatening illness. We can turn that trance state into a "healing zone" in which we can give therapeutic suggestions to set a trajectory of recovery and even help prevent post-traumatic stress. This work with adults can save a life; with children it can even help short-circuit a lifetime of "awfulizing" and bad memories. Attendees will learn ways to center themselves in emergencies, ways to gain rapport, and ways to give therapeutic suggestions that could mean the difference between panic and calm, pain and comfort, a sense of safety or trauma, even life and death. Judith Simon Prager, PhD, is co-author of The Worst Is Over: What to Say When Every Moment Counts andVerbal First Aid. She is author of Owie-Cadabra's Verbal First Aid for Kids and Journey to Alternity: Transformational Healing Through Stories and Metaphors. She is creator of Guided Imagery CDs for surgery, chemotherapy, and prenatal bonding. Her program, Verbal First Aid™ has been provided as training to medical centers & universities across the US and in England, & she has taught crisis counselors in Beijing, China. 11:45a.m. - 1:00p.m. Presentation Dave Elman's Methods - Then and Now H. Larry Elman, Henderson, NC Dave Elman's original techniques, as taught to physicians and dentists in the early days of the "Dave Elman Course on Medical Hypnosis" (about 1949 to about 1952), were based on his experience as a stage hypnotist, as modified by over 30 years of study of the subject. As his students provided feedback based on their clinical experiences, the methods and the course curriculum changed. By the mid-1950's, while they still included some stage methods, they were primarily clinical and much closer to what is seen today in modern hypnotherapy. However, there are many common practices in modern hypnotherapy which would surprise Elman and his physician students. Thus, a current day hypnotherapist and a 1960's physician would differ in all sorts of details in their approach to the client/patient and his problems. By the early 1960's, the transformation of the Course was close to what appears in Dave Elman's book "Hypnotherapy," which was published 1964. Experiences of his students continued to modify Dave Elman's methods up until his death in December 1967. The presenter Colonel H. Larry Elman, his son, took the Course three times as a teenager, and observed the initial changes. Subsequently, while examining his father's papers and recordings, some of the later modifications became apparent. This presentation will demonstrate the various forms of Dave Elman's procedures, with emphasis on his famous Induction and on his approaches in Age Regression. Presentation Reconnecting Your Spirit - Seeing the Possibilities Mary Shurtleff, Salt Lake City, UT Mary Shurtleff is an author, hypnotherapist, and feng shui educator and expert. This program is designed after her book by the same title. She has taken energy work into the 21st century using behavior modification methods in tandem with feng shui to change the pattern of behavior within the mind and body and in turn change the same anchored behaviors within the home. The home must mirror the changes the mind wishes to make. This program is a combination of hypnosis/behavior modification methods, the power of thoughts, and feng shui. The program is designed to help those, who wish to decode their childhood programming, generational tendencies, and word formations to discover who they truly are and what they desire. Reconnecting Your Spirit: Seeing the Possibilities shows how to identify words and phrases we often hear everyday from our society and our families that literally hold us back from achieving our highest potential. Once identified, these phrases can be replaced with positive, more directed language that is better aligned with your present hopes and dreams. 9:00a.m. - 12:00p.m. Workshop $30 (one workshop ticket) Ideo-Motor-Response (IMR) Mind-Body Communication - Giving Misery the Finger Alan Jensen, PhD, Malibu, CA The Chevreul Pendulum and the Ideomotor Effect were considered magical movements until 1833 when French chemist Michel-Eugene Chevreul showed how the pendulum movements relied on the Ideomotor effect. By 1852 English physiologist William Carpenter labeled these phenomena "Ideo-Motor," showing that muscular movement can be independent of conscious desires or emotions. Use of the Pendulum can be said to be The Original Mind-Body Healing and today Hypnotherapists use the ideomotor effect to communicate with the person's unconsciousness. David Cheek and Leslie LeCron, authors of Clinical Hypnotherapy (1968), developed seven key factors involved in causing any set of symptoms and established Ideomotor Question Techniques to help hypnotherapists teach people to manage symptoms. This workshop is based on these principles and will include substantial experiential opportunity and discovery. 9:00a.m. - 12:00p.m. Workshop $30 (one workshop ticket) The Secrets of Instantaneous Inductions Håkan Källving, Bagarmossen, Sweden Ever experienced an uneasy feeling when inducing hypnosis because you worry the slow relaxing and/or visualizing method won't be as effective for a particular client? This is a common concern from hypnotherapists relying on "scripts and techniques" for inducing hypnosis. If a client is more analytical, the concern is "I'd better get them into hypnosis fast or I'll lose session time." Rapid or instantaneous inducing is easily accomplished with proper technique and true understanding of how the mind really works. This workshop reveals what successfully induces trance quickly and you'll practice these proven techniques. You'll understand why they are successful regardless of clients' (or your own) personality. These techniques go deep into the core of the mind and work every time. After learning this approach you'll confidently get hypnotic inductions with your clients faster and as deeply as ever. 10:45a.m. - 12:00p.m. Presentation Unlocking the Secrets of Happiness for Living a Healthier Life Rev. Dr. Louise-Diana, Beverly Hills, CA A careful examination of surveys of subjective wellbeing indicates that cross-national and cultural differences seem to explain at least as much of the variance in wellbeing as do genetic factors and significantly more than education levels, marital status, or wealth.
